
Travis Frantz, M.D.Orthopedic SurgeonShoulder, Knee & Sports Medicine
Dr. Travis Frantz is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in shoulder, knee, and sports medicine whose areas of expertise include sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement, and fracture care. He has published numerous research papers on topics such as shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair, and professional baseball related injuries. Dr. Frantz is known for his compassionate and patient-centered approach to orthopedic care. He strives to create a specific treatment plan for each patient’s unique problem, and provide the best possible outcomes using the latest techniques and technologies.
Dr. Travis Frantz completed his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at Huntington University in Huntington, IN, where he played collegiate baseball. He went on to complete his Medical Degree at Indiana University, and Orthopedic Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He earned numerous academic, clinical, and research awards along the way.
Dr. Frantz completed his fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at TRIA Orthopaedic Center and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Frantz has provided extensive physician team coverage at all levels, including for the University of Minnesota football, Minnesota Twins, St. Paul Saints (Minnesota Twins Triple-A Affiliate), Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Guardians Triple-A Affiliate), Minnesota Wild, The Ohio State University basketball, and the United States Army Special Forces. During both his residency and fellowship he had the opportunity to care for numerous professional, collegiate, and high school athletes, as trained under direct supervision of current head team physicians for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Wild, and Seattle Kraken. He is currently the head team physician and surgeon for the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL junior hockey league.
Following fellowship, Dr. Frantz elected to continue his career at Fort Carson and Evans Army Community Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to take care of active-duty soldiers, veterans, and their families serving our nation. Dr. Frantz continues to contribute to the orthopedic knowledge base with his extensive clinical research being published in high impact journals and presented at national and international conferences. He has worked closely with Major League Baseball analyzing and publishing research on injury patterns and prevention. He also serves as a reviewer for multiple orthopedic journals and is a member of the prestigious society of American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Mid-America Orthopedic Association (MAOA), and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Dr. Frantz trained with leaders in the fields of arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery, shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair, ACL and ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, meniscal allograft transplantation, knee osteotomies, sports elbow injuries, shoulder and knee replacement, and trauma. He has a special interest in knee and shoulder preservation utilizing techniques to prolong joint health and delay or avoid joint replacement in young active patients. For those patients that could benefit from joint replacement, he is trained in both partial and total knee and shoulder replacements. When he is not at work Dr. Frantz enjoys spending time with his wife and dog. He continues to be an enthusiast of all sports, particularly college football, the NFL, and professional golf.
